UW Accounting & Finance Student Association

Overview

The Accounting & Finance Student Association (AFSA) is a student-run organization dedicated to supporting over 1,600 students in the School of Accounting and Finance across the Accounting and Financial Management, Biotechnology/CPA, Computing and Financial Management, Sustainability and Financial Management, and Math/CPA programs. Throughout my time with AFSA, I held various leadership roles, including Graphic Designer, Deputy Vice President of Marketing, and Vice President of Marketing.

Revamping AFSA's Brand

I joined AFSA in my first year as a Graphic Designer in the marketing department. At the time, AFSA lacked cohesive branding that would make its posts stand out from other educational clubs within SAF. Below is a glimpse of the AFSA Instagram feed when I joined.

Branding Revamp

After my first term, I was elected by the Marketing department as Deputy Vice President of Marketing.

In this role, I set a personal goal to revamp AFSA’s branding and establish a distinct identity for the organization. Below is a glimpse of the simple brand book I developed.

After the Revamp

Below is a glimpse of the Instagram feed after I became Vice President of Marketing. My goal was to keep AFSA fun and accessible while still emphasizing its educational value for SAF students.

Following my term as Deputy, I was elected by the School of Accounting & Finance student body as Vice President of Marketing.

Executive Photoshoot

In my first task as the Vice President of Marketing, I was responsible for project managing AFSA's annual executive photoshoot, which involved organizing, planning, and overseeing the graphic design for the President and Vice Presidents of AFSA.

I developed the photoshoot concept, coordinated the photography team, guided the graphic team in designing the posters, and worked with the social team to craft the copy and schedule the posts. It was nice to step back from hands-on design work and focus on leading the project!

Individual Posts

Each executive had a post showcasing a little bit of their personality, which drew some inspiration from Spotify Wrapped. This was mine! Unsurprisingly, AFM 207 was a Visualizations & Storytelling course.

So what did I learn?

Leading AFSA’s marketing efforts taught me the importance of building a strong, recognizable brand. Through my roles, I developed project management, leadership, and creative strategy skills.

Beyond design, I learned how to balance creativity with strategic decision-making to create a brand. This experience reinforced my passion for branding, marketing, and design.
