UW Chinese Student Association (UWCSA)

Overview

University of Waterloo Chinese Student Association (UWCSA) is the largest cultural club in Ontario, hosting some of the biggest social events in Waterloo while also organizing philanthropic initiatives for students. I held various roles at UWCSA, starting as a Marketing Associate, then Director of Design, and eventually Vice President of Design.

Blood, Sweat & Fears

Blood, Sweat & Fears was a Halloween event hosted by UWCSA. I was tasked with designing something grungy and eerie to capture the Halloween spirit and showcase the DJ's playing.

Midnight Social

Midnight Social is the largest social event at Waterloo, drawing over 1,000 attendees annually. My goal was to create a dark and visually striking design that captured the event’s late-night vibe.

Orientation

Orientation is an outdoor event hosted by UWCSA to welcome students back after the summer and encourage them to get involved. For this event, UWCSA partnered with Domino’s and Nongshim.

Sponsorship

UWCSA collaborates with more sponsors than any other club at the University of Waterloo. Our largest partnership was with Fantuan, an Asian food delivery app, with who we had an exclusive discount code.

So what did I learn?

Beyond managing a team of executives and collaborating within a group, designing for UWCSA pushed me to be more creative and adaptable. Since UWCSA doesn’t have strict branding guidelines and each event has a unique look, I often had no previous designs to reference or build upon. This challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, experiment with new styles, and test my design skills.
