Graphic Design

Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA)

Overview

I worked part-time as a graphic designer at the University of Waterloo Student Association for two years whenever I was on campus. I primarily used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, occasionally using Adobe Premiere for animations. My work included creating designs for various mediums, such as social media posts, print posters, and digital screens across campus. Below are some of my favorite Instagram posts I've created.

UW Undergraduate Student Association

WUSA represents undergraduates at the University of Waterloo, providing essential services and support to help students make the most of their university experience. With over 11 student-run services, each with its own branding, I adapted designs to fit their unique elements and color schemes.

UW Women's Centre

The Women’s Centre is a student service dedicated to creating a supportive space on campus for all women and trans students. I loved designing for this student service, as it embraces femininity through soft pink hues and floral motifs.

UW Food Support Services

UW Food Support Services is a confidential, non-profit initiative that provides food hampers and hygiene products to students experiencing food insecurity. When I designed, I aimed to balance visual impact with accessibility.

So what did I learn?

I hold this experience dear to my heart, because my manager took a chance on a self-taught designer who studied business.

Working as a graphic designer in a professional setting pushed me to level up my skills in Adobe Creative Suite. I learned how to take feedback and refine my work based on different perspectives, balancing creativity with brand needs.

It also made me more aware of user accessibility and how small design choices can impact how people engage with content. Overall, this role reinforced my love for design.
